We’re back for another week of hard-hitting news, with a little bit of fun at the end. This week, we focus on the work done on this year’s budget and other pieces of legislation which were discussed this week at the General Assembly.

LEGISLATIVE INTEL

  • As of publication time, both chambers have passed this year’s budget (Senate Bill 99)—check out Status Updates for more insight on how NC REALTORS® Legislative Priorities fared.
  • Legislators are expected to remain in session through next week.
  • Additional items on the legislative docket: constitutional amendments, regulatory reform, a proposed bond to support transportation/infrastructure investment

INSIDE BASEBALL—GLOSSARY OF TERMS

CONFERENCE COMMITTEE REPORT: This week, you likely heard numerous references in the media related to this year’s budget being a “conference committee report.” That is true and it is an important distinction from a normal bill. A conference committee is appointed when a bill has passed both chambers but the versions are different. The committee is tasked with resolving the differences between the versions and presenting a final compromise bill for a vote by both chambers. The vote is an up/down vote, meaning that no amendments can be offered and that different rules apply for how the bill is finalized.

In this section, we will highlight the current status of NC REALTORS® Legislative Priorities.
