Your source for Government Affairs Insight from NC REALTORS®

As you are all aware, many parts of our state are still dealing with the effects of Hurricane Florence now almost two weeks after it made landfall. Over that time, you have received multiple emails detailing NC REALTORS’ response and relief efforts, so we won’t detail those here. Check out the “Hurricane Florence Relief Resources” page on for a complete listing of federal, state, and local programs.

Included in this week’s edition is information about the General Assembly’s first disaster relief package, the formal launch of the #NCREALTORSVote2018 campaign, information about the association’s work on health insurance, and much more. We will also throw in a fun animal (not cat) video to liven it up.

Politics (and cat videos)

This week, the General Assembly returned for their third special session of the 2017-2018 biennium to begin crafting the state’s formal response to Hurricane Florence. Though significant amounts of data are still being collected regarding the true impacts to communities across the state, on Tuesday, legislators approved at $56.5 million funding package to support immediate needs and required federal matching monies. This is expected to be the first in a series of relief packages.

Legislators also approved an education bill allowing school systems affected by Florence to waive up to 20 school days and ensures that teachers and other school personnel are paid in full for days missed.

They will return October 15 to begin discussions on what is expected to be a more comprehensive recovery and funding package.

Since not everyone is a cat lover, but we all are a lover of fun animal videos, let’s take a look at some of the funny things that our flying friends do. #owls
