Elections 2018—the path forward (continued)

As you read in last week’s edition, based on the results of the elections held on November 6, the dynamics and make-up of the General Assembly will be different going into the 2019-2020 session. While there are multiple races across the state whose results are still being recounted, it is clear that the supermajorities held by Republicans in both chambers have fallen. That will in and of itself lend to a change in focus, but it remains unclear how much. Over the coming weeks, NC REALTORS® lobbying team will be meeting with newly elected and returning legislators to provide them with our priorities and an understanding of our issues and members.

What we do know is that the current members of the General Assembly will be returning for a special session beginning Tuesday, November 27. Topics for this session are expected to include additional disaster response aid for those affected by Hurricane Florence, as well as legislation in support of the recently passed constitutional amendments. We will have further updates and a potential recap of this session in the November 30 edition.
