Happening on Jones Street

What’s on the General Assembly’s mind this week?

As we told you last week, the General Assembly has been on a bit of a spring break for the better part of the past week. While that means that most legislators were not in town, it doesn’t mean that work has stopped. Behind the scenes, leadership and Appropriations chairs in the House have been feverishly crafting their budget package which they have begun to roll out in subcommittees over the past 24 hours. We have yet to see the complete proposal, but it is expected to be released early next week with votes occurring by the end of the week.

Also, as the crossover deadline looms on May 9, committees continue to have packed agendas. We expect to see votes on important REALTOR® priorities, like Private Roads and Association Health Plans in the coming days.

Keep watching for continued updates.

NC REALTORS® PAC Fundraising Spotlight

How do you #BackthePAC?

April has been a very busy month for NC REALTORS® PAC! Local associations have hosted a dozen fundraisers to encourage our members to invest in REALTOR® advocacy this month.

Raleigh Regional Association of REALTORS® held their Second Annual RPAC Trivia Night where 10 teams tested their knowledge and invested in our industry. RRAR awarded prizes to the team that won trivia and the team that invested the most money in RPAC. All together, this crew invested over $12,000! Check out their event here.

Foodies rejoice! Greensboro Regional REALTORS® Association held their annual Top Chef event where several GRRA members got to show off their skills in the kitchen while the rest of us got to sit back and enjoy! Attendees were treated to three course meals & signature drinks with various themes including: “Cena con la Abuela” (Cuban), “Dinner with Mama Scarci” (Italian), “Beam Me Up ‘Maharaj’” (Indian), and “Southern Supper with a Twist”. GRRA members invested $10,000 in NC REALTORS® PAC through this event!

Issue Spotlight: Opioid Epidemic

NC REALTORS® Partners with NC Attorney General to combat opioid crisis

In this week’s Issue Spotlight, we wanted to discuss something which is affecting every community across our state and nation: the growing opioid epidemic. Thousands of people from all walks of life across our state deal with the challenges resulting from addiction every day including countless in our own families and communities.

While a true solution to the epidemic is unclear, it is recognized that important steps can be taken to help limit access to prescription medications.

Learn more about NC REALTORS®’ partnership with North Carolina Attorney General Josh Stein.

So, you want to be on a Board or Commission?
