We are updating this section to provide you with more information about all going on at the General Assembly. Make sure to click on the “Learn More” link below.

This week, the Senate completed its work on its $24 billion budget proposal [At time of publication, the bill had passed second reading but was awaiting third reading]. While this proposal has many similarities to the House proposal, there are still some significant differences between both which will need to be resolved in the conference process. Check out our analysis on items of interest to REALTORS® in the Senate budget. Next week, we will provide a comparison of both proposals as we move forward to the conference process.

Federal Issues Update: National Flood Insurance Program

What is happening on Capitol Hill?

Over the past few years, the issue of a long-term extension of the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) has been one which we have had to regularly work towards. Congress has chosen to only pass short-term extensions meaning that the program has been at the brink of lapsing multiple times. One of those times would have been today if not for the House of Representatives’ action yesterday to extend the program for two weeks to Friday, June 14.

NAR has been working with a coalition of other groups to encourage Congress to pass a long-term extension and will continue to do so over the next two weeks.

Learn more about NAR’s efforts on NFIP.
