Happening on Jones Street

What’s on the General Assembly’s mind this week?

In remembrance of the seventy-fifth anniversary of D-Day, both chambers of the General Assembly gathered at the State Capitol Thursday for ceremonial sessions and events commemorating the sacrifices made by servicemembers. Earlier in the week, work began on the conference committee for House Bill 966 [2019 Appropriations Bill] as both chambers work to resolve the differences in their versions of the bill.

Federal Issues Update: National Flood Insurance Program (Part 2)

We thought this was over, but more happened this week

Last week we told you that Congress had acted to extend the sunset of the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) until June 14 to allow for more time to work towards a long-term extension. While that still occurred, they also were able to insert an even longer extension into the disaster recovery legislation which was passed and sent to the President on Monday. Once signed by the President, the NFIP will remain active until September 30.

While this is a significant achievement, this is also the twelfth short-term extension of the program since September 17 when the last long-term agreement expired. NAR will continue working with Congressional leadership and stakeholders to ensure that this important program remains a needed option for thousands of homeowners across North Carolina and throughout the United States.
