Happening on Jones Street

What’s on the General Assembly’s mind this week?

This was such a big week in NC REALTORS®’ advocacy efforts, that we are not going to make you read it the Jones Street Update.

Association Health Plans (AHPs) has been the topic of the week at the General Assembly, with a lot of movement on our top NC REALTORS® Legislative Priority of the session. Through a significant amount of work with multiple stakeholders and advocacy by REALTORS® from across the state, a compromise was reached to move legislation forward which would allow for the creation of AHPs by associations like ours.

On Wednesday, NC REALTORS® was proud to participate in a press conference with NC REALTORS® members, Representatives Kyle Hall and Brian Turner. You can read excerpts of 2019 Legislative Committee Chair Wendy Harris’ comments here.

Later that day, the House of Representatives PASSED Senate Bill 86 “Small Business Health Care Act” by a strong, bipartisan vote of 82-32. We appreciate all of the support that we received from legislators across the state. The Senate will be taking up the bill next week before it is sent to the Governor.

Over the coming week, we WILL be launching a strong advocacy campaign encouraging legislators to support the bill and asking that the Governor sign it into law. Make sure to watch your emails and respond as soon as you are asked.

WHY #IBACKTHEPAC I believe in keeping home ownership affordable and obtainable. I stepped up and invested in RPAC for my clients, friends, family, for my business and the industry I'm so thankful to be part of. I am passionate about real estate and helping others obtain the dream of home ownership and RPAC has my back and looks out for the interests of the people I care about who have real estate holdings so I decided back the PAC. I believe in the work RPAC does and I'm thankful to be part of the REALTOR® Party.

Event Highlight: Unlocking the Power of NC eClosing

Learn more about upcoming advocacy-focused events across the state

With technology becoming a more involved part of the real estate business, there are numerous new products and processes which have come on line. One of those is in the area of electronic closings. The North Carolina Secretary of State has identified this as an area that they would like to work more on to ensure that as the concept rolls out, it is done in a responsible manner.

In furtherance of their work, they are facilitating a conference in Raleigh on August 22 discussing the process, opportunities, and challenges facing eClosings in our state.

Learn more about the conference.
