In many communities across the state, the 2019 elections are just weeks away. But even if you don’t have any elections this year, the 2020 primary is only 6 months away. The REALTOR® voice is important in every election so it is essential that every NC REALTORS® member is registered to vote.

39,262 NC REALTORS® (86.8 percent) members are registered to vote in North Carolina. While that is an awesome achievement, that still means that thousands of you are not currently registered to cast a ballot in the state. We are starting a concerted effort to help get us to 100% registered.

You can check your voter registration on the NC State Board of elections website. There you can also access the voter registration form too!

#iBackThePAC Day—October 3

Maybe you’re a new NC REALTORS® PAC investor, participating in your industry’s advocacy efforts for the first time. Maybe you’re a RPAC Chair, walking the walk and talking the talk. Maybe you’re a Major Investor, who has truly put your money where your mouth is. Wherever you are in your NC REALTORS® advocacy journey, October 3rd is the day to celebrate! #iBackthePAC Day is a celebration of NC REALTORS® PAC and the people who invest in the REALTOR® Party and our industry.

All day on Thursday, October 3, 2019, you can celebrate in multiple ways. One of the biggest ways is by telling everyone why you #BackThePAC. Post on your social media pages using the hashtags: #iBackthePAC #NCREALTORSPAC #investforimpact. Bonus points if you post a picture or video of you wearing your pin. We will be liking and sharing your photos on NC REALTORS® social media channels throughout the day. You can also change your Facebook profile frame to show everyone you #BackthePAC! Just visit the Facebook photo frames page and search for the NC REALTORS® “iBackthePAC” frame.

Keep watching for more information about how others are showing their support for NC REALTORS® PAC.

AHP Campaign by the Numbers

As we continue our wrap up of our recent campaign in support of Senate Bill 86, we wanted to break down all of our efforts a little bit differently. We have put together an infographic which details the engagement that we received through the Call for Action, social media, and print media efforts.

Check out the infographic here.

Thank you to everyone who joined in our advocacy efforts on this monumental piece of legislation for our members and thousands of independent contractors and small business people across the state.

In the coming weeks and months, NC REALTORS® staff and leadership will continue to examine our opportunities to provide plans as soon as all federal hurdles are cleared. You can learn more by viewing our video from NC REALTORS® CEO Andrea Bushnell.

Meet the Government Affairs Team

Learn a little more about all of the great people working for you and with you

In this new section we will feature profiles of each of the members of the NC REALTORS Government Affairs team. We will be going in order from our newest employees to those who have been on the team for many years. This week, you get the chance to meet our Political Fundraising Manager, Jordan Forrest.

NAME Jordan Forrest
TITLE Political Fundraising Manager
HOMETOWN Kannapolis, NC
ALMA MATER University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
FAVORITE MOVIE The Little Mermaid
WHY DID YOU WANT TO JOIN THE NC REALTORS® TEAM? My love of politics began at a young age, but as I grew older partisanship began to sour that affection. I was drawn to the NC REALTORS® Government Affairs Department because we don’t focus our efforts on Republicans or Democrats, but on those who support private property rights and the REALTOR® Party.
FUN FACT ABOUT YOURSELF I am a Real Housewives aficionado and a charcuterie connoisseur

Let’s Talk Opportunity Zones

On Tuesday, the Greensboro Regional Association of REALTORS® (GRRA), in partnership with the City of Greensboro’s Planning Department and Action Greensboro hosted a discussion with nationally-recognized planning expert, Bruce Katz, on the benefits provided under the new federal Opportunity Zone program.

The event addressed a sold-out crowd of REALTORS® from across the state and members of the public. The presenters talked about working with the city, recent successes in Greensboro, and presented ideas for future development. Katz stressed the zones’ incredible potential to boost Greensboro’s growth and challenged those gathered to collaborate and make it happen. The financial support from GRRA, plus grants from NC REALTORS® and the National Association of REALTORS®, helped make this event a resounding success.

Lobbyist at your Door 2.0

As we move into the fall meeting schedule, we wanted to revamp our Lobbyist at Your Door program to provide local associations and brokerages with some new opportunities to learn more about all of the services provided by the NC REALTORS® Government Affairs Department. From the goings-on at the General Assembly (FYI, they are still in session), the 2020 election season, or even how you can get more involved with our work on issues affecting your clients, your business, and your industry, we want to provide this resource to you. Contact Seth Palmer to get your association or office on our schedule. And keep watching for additional educational offerings through this and other Department programs.
