What we know and NC REALTORS®’ response

NOTE: The information provided in this Section is current as of March 13. Please make sure to refresh any links to pages provided, as well as listen to daily news briefings for the most up-to-date information.

With the continued rise in cases of the Coronavirus, also known as COVID-19, governments at all levels—domestic and international—have been taking steps to limit the potential for transmission of the virus. In response to the recommendations from public health officials, many organizations and groups have made the decision to postpone or cancel events, and NC REALTORS® is no different.

On Tuesday, the NC REALTORS® made the decision to postpone all scheduled events and non-essential staff travel through Friday, April 17. The decision was made out of an abundance of caution for NC REALTORS® members, staff, their families, and the public at large, and it follows the guidance issued by the National Association of REALTORS® and state officials. Make sure to follow all NC REALTORS® communications for additional updates.

We have also put together a resource page which includes links to the most current guidance from both REALTOR® and public health sources like the Centers for Disease Control and the NC Department of Health and Human Services.

Please stay safe and make sure that you are regularly washing your hands for at least 20 seconds (sing “Happy Birthday” if you need something to pass the time).

Make sure you participate in the 2020 Census!

Due to the importance of the 2020 Census for communities across North Carolina, NC REALTORS® is proud to announce our partnership with the NC Complete Count Commission. Over the coming weeks, we will be sharing important information about the 2020 Census and why you should participate. The Census Bureau will be distributing information about how to respond to the Census starting next week. For the first time, the 2020 Census will accept responses online. You can respond to the Census in less time than it takes to finish your morning coffee!

Why is it important to respond to the Census? Let’s ask an expert in counting!

We want to spotlight what you are doing…so let us know

In this new Section, we are taking to the streets and highlighting many of the great events held by local associations across the state. This week, our view is directed towards Fayetteville and the Longleaf Pine Association of REALTORS®.

Last weekend, REALTORS® sponsored a “Build a Better Block” event focused on reimagining what a local street would look like if it was more bicycle- and pedestrian-friendly. The event is a great example of what is being done throughout the state through resources provided by the National Association of REALTORS® and NC REALTORS®.

We know you have your cell phone with you every hour of every day

Most of us now use text as an important means of communication. To continue being effective in advocacy, we need to use text, too. We have used them effectively in multiple Calls for Action, including last year’s engagement on Association Health Plans.

Through the REALTOR® Party Mobile Alert program, more than 6,800 NC REALTORS® are able to receive our text messages. But we need more! We have a goal to reach 10,000 sign-ups by the end of the year so that we can ensure that when we need to act, we have the numbers to call into action.

Signing up for REALTOR® Party Mobile Alerts is simple—just text “NCREALTORS” to 30644 and you are set. And just for doing it, you may get rewarded. NC REALTORS® is kicking off the 2020 REALTOR® Party Mobile Alert Challenge and here is what you need to know…

  • Each month on the 10h, we will award a $20 gift card to the first 10 people who sign up for the program. The day will start at 10:00 AM so make sure to get moving early.
  • And as a special prize, for the person who is the 10,000th person to sign up for the program, they will be awarded a $200 gift card.

For more information, including the full contest rules, please visit our event page.

Is your id REAL?

No, this is not a scam. Get your N.C. REAL ID today

Beginning October 1, the federal government will no longer consider standard driver licenses and ID cards as sufficient forms of identification to board commercial flights or enter secure federal facilities.

North Carolina residents will need a REAL ID, passport or other federally approved ID to fly within the U.S. and to access federal buildings and military bases.

For new residents, there is no extra cost for a REAL ID when you go to get a NC license/ID. They just need to bring one more document certifying your identity. For existing residents, if your license is expiring, no additional cost for a REAL ID. If it is not, you can get the REAL ID outside of the normal renewal process, for just $13.

Don’t wait. Get your N.C. REAL ID today! Click here to find a DMV office in your area. Visit for more information.
