How short was short session?

It is the session that never ends…NCGA 2020 Short Session

When we last left you, the General Assembly had returned for a continuation of the 2019 long session and with plans to convene for their short session in May. These plans were upended by COVID-19, with both chambers coming back into session in April to address immediate needs in response to the growing pandemic.

They did end up convening for a more traditional May short session, but with plans to reconvene in September to address additional spending priorities related to COVID. The adjournment resolution includes the date for the NCGA to adjourn sine die as Wednesday, September 3.

The NC REALTORS® Lobbying Team, led by Chief Lobbyist Cady Thomas, compiled a comprehensive summary of the activities from the short session. Follow the link to learn how the legislature's activities impacted and thank you to the Lobbying Team for their hard work, especially given the new circumstances.

What is the state of the North Carolina real estate industry?

The annual State of Real Estate returns in September

We know that this question is always at the front of mind for all REALTORS and other industry participants. But as we have gone through the various challenges placed in our way as a result of COVID-19 and the resulting shutdowns of various parts of our economy, it has become all the more salient.

Even though we can’t come together in person for this year’s State of Real Estate event, that doesn’t diminish the vital nature of this discussion. For that reason, we have shifted the 2020 State of Real estate to a virtual platform.

Make plans to join us virtually on Wednesday, September 23 and Thursday, September 24 for conversations with nationally recognized speakers and state leaders. We are almost ready to make announcements on sessions and speakers, so make sure to watch stateofrealestatenc.com and other NC REALTORS communications.

Now more than ever, BACK THE PAC!

As you can see in the Short Session Summary in Section 1, as well as in the information disseminated through all of the Status Update emails, there has been a lot going on. And much of it has been driven by our Government Affairs team. Why? Because of our relationships, connections, and experiences working with the elected and appointed leaders making those decisions. But how do we have all these and were they in place before COVID-19? The answer to both of these questions is NC REALTORS® PAC.

Thanks to your support of NC REALTORS® PAC we continue to be one of the most successful trade associations and organizations in the state.

The Government Affairs Team is Growing…Again

Since we last talked to you, the NC REALTORS® Government Affairs team has undergone some changes and some additions. Thanks to the support of local associations and NC REALTORS® leadership we have been able to grow our local Government Affairs Director (GAD) program.

We have also had some internal promotions and new people joining the team to fill their positions. With all of these changes, we are going to bring back a section from last year and let you “Meet the Government Affairs Team.” Starting in our July 31 edition, we will feature two profiles of Government Affairs team members.
